MERCURY
In this richly imagined salon, history, craftsmanship, and surrealist spirit converge in a theatrical composition.
Anchoring the scene, a striking pair of "Singes Attentifs I & II" (ca. 1992) by François-Xavier Lalanne command attention atop original bronze plinths with a delicate antique green patina, their golden surfaces gleaming with quiet mischief.
Between them, an intimate dialogue unfolds: two sumptuous Pierre Chareau armchairs (c. 1923) in deep red velvet invite repose around a palm wood table by Eugène Printz (c. 1928), a masterpiece of restrained modernism.
Atop the table, a rare Charles Robert Ashbee cup (ca. 1893), crafted in patinated bronze and copper by the Guild of Handicraft, whispers of English Arts & Crafts ideals.
Overseeing the room is Pablo Picasso’s arresting oil painting "Femme dans un fauteuil" (June 1941), its bold, fractured forms setting a resonant, introspective tone.
Softly illuminating the scene are a pair of sculptural sconces in bronze, created by Franck Evennou in 2019, their contemporary lines harmonizing with the historic weight of the ensemble.
The result is an opulent yet enigmatic interior — a room suspended between eras, where dialogue across centuries feels inevitable and alive.
