HOMER

I placed Picasso here deliberately.

*Nu couché et musicien* — painted on the 24th of March, 1967 — a reclining figure, a musician lost in sound. Today marks fifty-nine years to the day. Some things are not coincidence. They are simply rightness.

Below the canvas, I set two armchairs by José Zanine Caldas — Brazilian, circa 1970s, sculptural as driftwood, generous as an embrace. Between them, Jean-Michel Frank's low table from 1928 grounds the room in restraint. And in the corner, Kichizô Inagaki's floor lamp — Tokyo, c. 1920 — casts its warm, pyramidal light as though it has always known exactly where it belongs.
